JACKSON, Tenn — Drivers hit icy streets in the Hub City for the second day Tuesday. City road officials said they are working to clear main roads throughout Jackson. “We’re just concentrating on Highland, F.E. Wright and the main roads through town,” deputy superintendent of street construction in Jackson, Buddy Crick said. Crick said the city has two snow plows working the streets, and Tuesday’s sunny conditions helped crews clear roads. “Today when we got a little warm up, and we got a lot of traffic,” Crick explained. “It got a little slushy. We quit our salt we started blading the streets trying to get it all cleared off.” Drivers who talked with WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News said they are still proceeding with caution. “I’ve slowed down just a little bit. Instead of going 40 mph, I’m just doing like 30 and sometimes I do like 20,” Jackson driver Carlos Burgess said. “The city streets will probably be OK,” Jackson driver Gwen Long said, “But in the county, that’s where the problem lies, because roads they take a little longer.” Madison County road officials told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News Tuesday they are still putting salt on hills, but say low traffic roads are still dangerous to travel. Crick said for those on city roads, just take your time behind the wheel. “You can get over this ice and slush if you just take your time, just don’t be in a hurry,” Crick explained. City road officials said they were planning on working on the streets until rush hour this afternoon, and would get the plows back on the road Wednesday morning.
