JACKSON, Tenn.- Snow is beginning to melt and people are trying to get back to the norm. However, there are still plenty of dangers out there. “Sidewalks themselves are pretty nasty. It’s very slippery. You have to be very careful because you could hit some thick ice, thick ice in general,” Tony Hines said. With many sidewalks, driveways and steps still completely covered with ice, doctors in the emergency room are seeing an increase in patients. “People are trying to get back to work and are ready to get out and they slip and fall and we’ve been seeing that all morning we saw lots of fractures and things of that nature,” said Dr. David James of Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Dr. James said the ice-related injuries they typically see are to the arm, head, neck and ankle area. Experts recommend spreading coffee grounds or using old bath towels to step on for better traction. But if you are left without any of those options try this method. “Dig your heels in when your stepping and march like a soldier,” Hines said.
