JACKSON, Tenn. — Two men recover in a Memphis hospital after a shooting in the parking lot of a Walmart in Lexington. Investigators said so far no one has been charged. “You could just be sitting out there and get shot by accident,” shopper Roger Mount said. “It’s a little bit unusual for this area. It’s more something you would expect in Jackson or Memphis.” Lexington police said two men in the same vehicle exchanged gunfire around 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Capt. Jeff Middleton said they are still trying to figure out why but confirmed the men knew each other. “Obviously it’s an isolated incident,” he said. “It’s not a random act.” After the shooting, investigators said both people involved went to the hospital in private vehicles. Middleton said one of the men showed up at the Henderson County Community Hospital in Lexington and the other at Regional Hospital of Jackson. Investigators said both went by medical helicopter to Regional One Health in Memphis. “We are not currently seeking anyone, any other persons of interest, in connection with the case,” Middleton said. Becky Johnson Hans said she moved to Lexington to get away from things like this. “It’s unreal,” she said. “This is a small town. We watch everybody. Everybody knows everybody. This shouldn’t be happening here.” Mount said he plans to be more careful. “I have let my mother sit in the car while I go in, but I guess don’t need to do that anymore,” he said. Investigators said they are still trying to determine if anyone else was in the vehicle. Police said more than one shot was fired inside the vehicle but could not say how many. Investigators said they are still in the process of collecting evidence and interviewing eyewitnesses.
