JACKSON, Tenn. — The man accused of attacking a Jackson police officer appeared before a judge on Tuesday. Cepeda Coble is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest. The judge set Coble‘s bond at $250,000 and ordered he undergo a mental evaluation. “We’ll set this for hearing at a later date once the evaluation’s completed,” Judge Nathan Pride said. Coble is accused of attacking Sgt. Mike Thomas on Sunday night at a gas station at the intersection of North Highland Avenue and Carriage House Drive. Investigators said Coble took off after the alleged attack. According to an arrest warrant, an officer said the suspect shouted at him, picked up a large rock, dropped the rock and assumed a fighting stance. Police said they used a Taser on Coble before taking him into custody. Police said Thomas was set to undergo surgery Tuesday afternoon. Coble currently is being held at the Madison County Jail. He is scheduled to return to court March 5.
