TBI: Dyersburg police officer arrested on theft charge

JACKSON, Tenn. — A Dyersburg police officer has been charged with stealing from an Obion County couple, according to a release from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Cara Elizabeth Johnson-Peckenpaugh, 37, is charged with theft under $500, according to the release. Agents determined Peckenpaugh, an investigator with the Dyersburg Police Department, electronically removed money from the checking account of a Union City couple and used the money to pay her electric bill at the Forked Deer Electric Company in Halls, the release states. Agents arrested Peckenpaugh Tuesday, and she was booked into Obion County Jail and released on her own recognizance. She has been suspended from the police department without pay pending an administrative proceeding, according to the release.
