Ferguson, Mo., minister speaks at Freed-Hardeman University

HENDERSON, Tenn. — The minister for the Midwest Church of Christ in Ferguson, Mo., was in West Tennessee Tuesday. Kelvin Pugh spoke as part of the Leadership Series presented by Freed-Hardeman University’s College of Business and Ayers Center for Student Leadership. According to Pugh, the congregation has not been discouraged by the protests plaguing the community since the August shooting of Michael Brown. Pugh said the church has visited the apartments where Brown was shot, passed out Bible literature, knocked on doors and invited people to attend their worship services. They also have distributed food and clothing to those in need. In addition, they sent letters to the mayor and police chief. “We told them we were praying for them and for the Brown family,” Pugh said. Pugh received his master’s degree in ministry from FHU in December, completing his classwork online. He has preached at the Midwest congregation since 2010.
