JACKSON, Tenn. — State workers prepare for another winter storm, but some are recovering from last week’s grueling schedule. “It’s rough,” Mike Fowler said. “Your crew, they are up long hours at night and they’re out and about, they’re trying to get these roads clean.” Fowler said he has been working for the Tennessee Department of Transportation for 29 years. He said he is one of many workers who worked more than 100 hours last week. “You’ve got the ambulances, the sheriffs, the police out, and people have to go to work, so we have to do our job to help keep the roads clean,” Fowler said. TDOT officials said more than 300 people worked in West Tennessee alone during last week’s storm, including repair shops, administrators and a 24/7 call center to help aid in cleaning the roads. “They’re a great group of employees, and they work very diligently to help keep these roads as clean as possible,” Ross Sherwood said.
