NORTH JACKSON, Tenn — Local businesses are bracing for another round of ice and snow. This latest threat comes just as many Jackson restaurants are returning to normal following last week’s winter weather. “The weather is a business killer for Jackson,” said Brooks Shaw, the general manager of Old Country Store in Casey Jones Village. Shaw said his restaurant lost tens of thousands of dollars during the last ice storm in Jackson. “Having two late-winter storms back to back it is a struggle,” he said. Frank Arcuri, the owner of Flatiron Grille, said he has already come up with a new business plan for this year to make up for the losses. “Different promotions to pick that back up. Keep in mind what we lost because we still have all the expenses. The rent doesn’t stop, the electric doesn’t stop,” Arcuri said. Both men said when the weather conditions get bad and the roads get icy, they lose many customers to grocery stores. “Unfortunately everybody runs off to Kroger and buys a couple gallons of milk and as much bread as they can carry. It’s going to take a little while for them to eat through the groceries that they bought,” Arcuri said. Shaw said everyone at the restaurant struggles when the doors are closed. “It hurts people not being able to come in especially servers who rely on tips,” he said. “We’ve just got to work through it and stick together and we’ll be better for it in the end,” Arcuri said. Both men said as of right now they plan to keep their businesses open during the winter weather.
