JACKSON, Tenn.,–Tennessee sits in a state of emergency for the third straight week. The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, (TEMA) ranks the size of emergencies based on a one to five scale, with one labeled as a catastrophic disaster. Since the winter blast began in mid February, the state has fluctuated between a two and its current status, a three. “Basically what this does it helps put more assets out there for us to alleviate whatever problem that there is,” Jackson-Madison County EMA Director, Marty Clements said. Clements said communities have the option to extend the declaration for a period of 60 days. He said this would allow more resources to travel and help towns recover. “The majority of the place may be cleaned up ,and everything’s back, not quite back but getting that way so they can turnaround and extend it a little bit just to help those other communities that were hit harder and have less assets to get them back to normal.”
