Jackson man officially charged with unlawful gun possession

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A man was in Jackson court Wednesday after a traffic stop Tuesday morning allegedly revealed a loaded handgun in his pocket. Police stopped Anquarious Long in the 600 block of Whitehall Street for a suspected child restraint violation, according to an affidavit. Police say Long told them he did not have a driver’s license and that when he reached for an ID card, he turned his shoulder away from the officer in an attempt to retrieve something from his pocket. Police then asked Long to step out of the vehicle, and a search revealed a loaded .32 caliber revolver in his pants pocket, according to the affidavit. Police also say they found a partially smoked marijuana cigar on the driver’s side floor board. Long is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and simple possession of marijuana. His bond was set at $10,000.
