NASHVILLE, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Martin’s women’s basketball team defeated Belmont 71-65 in the Ohio Valley Conference semifinals. The victory improves the Lady Skyhawks win streak to 18. “It was a tough ballgame. I thought we did a good job defensively, unless you look at the numbers,” said head coach Kevin McMillan. OVC Player of the Year Ashia Jones tallied in a game-high 39 points. The Covington native’s huge performance falls just two points of the single-game tournament record set by former teammate Jasmine Newsome. “Who would have thought that these kids would be playing on Saturday? I give them credit for figuring out ways to win ballgames. I am proud of our kids and I‘m looking forward to seeing what tomorrow holds.” UTM is one win away from their fifth consecutive OVC Tournament title. The Skyhawks play Tennessee State on Saturday, March 7 at 1 p.m.
