JACKSON, Tenn. — Dozens of snowmen show up in lawns across West Tennessee. With record-breaking lows overnight, many say they were surprised to see their creations survive another day. First-time snowmen builders and brothers Aleistar and Zack Sutton said they tried to make a replica of the Disney character Olaf. “But we didn’t have carrots, we didn’t have basically anything Olaf had except sticks,” Aleistar said. Some said they weren’t excited about building snowmen at first. “I didn’t want to come outside,” Abeba Netash said. “I just wanted to sit inside and have coffee, but I just decided to come outside and it was so much fun.” West Tennesseans said it doesn’t take much to make snow come to life. “Checkers for his eyes and a random hat laying around,” Keadrian Fuller said about making her snowman, “Billy.” Others said they chose a more timeless approach to snowmen attire. “The corn-cob pipe is obviously just a classic,” Jared Harrison said. Some said while the snow was perfect for packing, they still needed an extra set of hands. Others say they’d rather work solo. “My dad was arguing and saying I was doing too much work making the circles and stuff, so he took a 30-minute break and I did the rest for him,” Fuller said. As special as they are, one fact remains — they come and go as fast as the southern sunshine comes out.
