Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Week: Felicia Hindman

CLARKSBURG, Tenn. — Felicia Hindman is no stranger to Clarksburg School, with Pre-K through 12th grade all in one building, where she grew up. “I went to school here. This is my alma mater,” Hindman said. “I knew I always wanted to come back and teach, and this is my second year as a teacher.” She said it was the teachers here who inspired her to pursue a career as a teacher. “I had some really wonderful teachers here when I went to school here,” she said. “And most of the teachers are still here, and I teach with them.” Hindman teaches special education and says there are many things she loves about teaching but especially when students are excited to be here. She knows the students she works with have obstacles to overcome but she is determined to help them succeed. “My goals is that they can become productive readers and do well in math and just be great students,” Hindman said. She works with small groups and encourages a love of learning by doing hands-on activities. “I hope I make learning fun for them and enjoyment, and they can always come to me if they need anything,” she said. Hindman says her job is rewarding. “I always wanted to go into a job that I could make a difference, and working with students that struggle a lot, it makes a huge difference when they finally understand or when they learn to read because they can take the tools and be better people,” she said. Hindman will be eligible for the statewide Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month Award. To vote for her or any of the other nominees, visit seehowitaddsup.com.
