MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — One of the biggest dangers still on the road Friday night doesn’t include any snow or ice. At times more dangerous, the after effects of wear and tear on the road — potholes —are becoming a bigger problem. Signs have been posted along Interstate 40 in both directions, warning drivers of parts of the road where some of the worst pot holes have been seen. Local road officials say it’s important to have a plan in place and be familiar with the car you drive should you need to replace a blown tire. “Make sure the spare tire is up,” said Lt. Brad Wilbanks with the Tennessee Highway Patrol. “Know how to use your jack. Some of these jacks are complicated, and you don’t need to be learning how to use it on the side of the Interstate, especially at night.” Another reminder to drivers on busier roads such as the Interstate is to pay extra attention to how much room you’re giving yourself to get out and change the tire. And, if in need of help, you can always call 911.
