JACKSON, Tenn. — Three dogs are found dead off an East Jackson road while four others are found alive wandering around nearby. The unusual find has police looking into a possible theft or even a dog-fighting ring. Investigators say they recovered the bodies of dead dogs near an industrial area off Flex Drive. Police say the cause of death is not yet known. A news release from Jackson police said they’re trying to determine if the dogs were stolen or part of a dog fighting operation. “Dumping animals is against the law, as is cruelty to animals,” Madison County Humane Society’s Lynn Caldwell told WBBJ Tuesday. The Humane Society says things like this shouldn’t happen. “It’s very disturbing,” Caldwell said. “Anytime you find an animal who has been injured, abused or tortured, it’s extremely disturbing, especially in a community of this size.” The four other dogs have been transported to the Madison County Rabies Control. Officials we spoke with Tuesday say the living dogs are in good health. Anyone who recognizes the dogs or has information is asked to call Jackson police at 731-425-8400, Jackson City Animal Control at 731-425-8545, or Crime Stoppers at 731-424-TIPS (8477). WBBJ spoke with officials at Madison County Rabies Control Tuesday. If the dogs aren’t claimed by their rightful owner, they’ll be cleared for adoption.
