Program notifies crime victims when inmates released

JACKSON, Tenn. — Organizations helping crime victims in Tennessee will have the opportunity to learn about a nationwide program that alerts victims when offenders get out of jail. SAVIN stands for Statewide Automated Victim Information Notification. The program alerts victims when inmates get out of jail, move facilities or escape. The Madison County Sheriff‘s Office wants crime victims to understand how it works. “They can call it anytime they want to, to see where they are, what’s going on, and it’s to help the victims,” Madison County Sheriff John Mehr said. The Madison County Sheriff‘s Office will host two SAVIN training sessions for people from across West Tennessee in law enforcement, victim advocacy and legal and correction. The sessions will take place Monday at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. The first session runs from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the second session from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
