BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — A police raid in Brownsville leads to two arrests and the recovery of more than thirty grams of crack cocaine. “We recovered 27 grams of cocaine and another 36 grams of crack cocaine,” Brownsville Police Department Capt. Chuck Willis said Friday. Willis said they also recovered approximately $6,000, scales and three vehicles believed to be bought with illegal drug money. Roger Jones Jr., 29, and Paula Hawkins, 36, are now charged with drug possession with intent and drug paraphernalia possession. Those who live in the neighborhood say they saw the raid happening early Friday morning. The house is right in front of where kids get on and off the school bus. Residents say this isn’t typically something that would happen in this neighborhood. “It’s very unsettling, you know, to have girls 10 to 12 years old, to know that that type of activity is going on in your neighborhood is very unsettling,” neighborhood resident Millicent Tyus told WBBJ Friday. The police department said getting these drugs off the street is a good step forward. “The biggest thing we’re doing is we’re being proactive in going out here and looking for these problems and doing our best to remove these problems from our community,” Willis said. Brownsville police say both Jones and Hawkins are jailed without bond. Officers say Jones has a previous federal record for drugs and weapons.
