JACKSON, Tenn. — The 600-plus runners expected for Saturday’s Andrew Jackson Marathon were making their way to Jackson Friday. Registration for the state’s oldest marathon began Friday afternoon at Union University. This is the 43rd year for the event, which also features a half marathon, 5K and Kids Marathon. The Bicentennial Exchange Club, which organizes the event, says all the money raised by the run will benefit the child abuse prevention programs of the Carl Perkins Center. “Runners know that it is for a good cause and they want to help out,” said Julie McMahon, director of the Andrew Jackson Marathon. “So we get a lot of runners coming in just because it’s helping kids.” The marathon begins at 7 a.m. Saturday. The half marathon begins 30 minutes later, with the 5K start time at 8. To see the course map and for more information about the marathon, look for the link in the Seen on 7 section of our website.
