NORTH JACKSON — A north Jackson conference covered the many sides of recovery for women Thursday afternoon. Community and state addiction services put on the seminar about addiction and how gender plays a part in overcoming it. Specifically, event organizers talked about how it’s often harder for women to find medical treatment for addiction. Twyla Wilson, an experienced social worker and owner of her own rehab center, spoke at the event. “I hope they’re going to have cutting-edge information on addiction treatment, on trauma treatment and the integration of those two into gender-based services for women and girls,” Wilson said. Addiction to drugs and substances wasn’t the only topic covered. Recovering from domestic violence and keeping a healthy home also were included in the discussion.
