HUMBOLDT, Tenn. — Tamara Comer started her career working in a different field, but three years ago she decided she wanted to teach. “I spent 10 years in the finance and banking industry before I came over to teach business classes here at Humboldt High School,” she said. Comer is the business technology teacher and says teaching has made a huge impact on her life. “I feel like it’s my purpose, as what I was meant to do, the direction that God was leading me in my life, and things like this prove to me that I did the right thing.” She inspires her students to take what they learn in her classroom and apply it to real-life situations. “With me teaching business classes, just the real-world situations that they get from that, just being prepared, not procrastinating on things,” she said. Comer says the way to inspire her students is to connect with them. “Just to make things fun, have it relate to real-life situations and just getting to know the students and knowing what they need.” Opening the students to the future is one of her main goals. “Just to be model citizens here and to go on to a post-secondary education. And just take those things that I teach them every day on to post-secondary and into their business aspects of life.” Comer will be eligible for the statewide Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month Award.
