JACKSON, Tenn. — A nonprofit organization aiming to conserve the population of the wild turkey raised funds Saturday night over dinner. According to officials, about 250 members of the West Tennessee chapter of the Wild Turkey Federation were at their annual banquet in Jackson. The organization’s website stated it’s helped restore wild turkey populations from 30,000 in the U.S. to more than 7 million across North America. Committee members said they wanted to preserve their hunting heritage. “Over the years it’s grown, and this is what these banquets do,” Greg Thomason said. “They help keep the population good for hunters to enjoy the sport.” The organization has spent more than $412 million to conserve more than 17 million acres of the turkey’s habitat.
