JACKSON, Tenn. — Two husband and wife duos are hoping West Tennesseans will team up, get locked in a room and solve mind-boggling riddles. “Puzzles, mysteries, solving things, figuring it out — this is the perfect opportunity to tap into all of that,” Lee Wilson said. Wilson handles communications for this new business that is popping up for one week in Jackson. A team of six must unlock the clues inside one of four rooms. WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News got a sneak peak into the “Message in a Bottle” room, one of four rooms that can be chosen to escape. “All of these bottles will be filled with messages,” said Jared Dauenhauer, the mastermind behind the concept. “You’ll be locked in here for 45 minutes, and you will be trying ultimately to figure out how to get out of this locked combination door right here.” As the hands of the clock will turn, the creators behind Jackson Escape Rooms said 45 minutes will go by fast. It’s a challenge with a goal of bringing people together, even if they can’t get out on their own. “When you ask how hard are the rooms, it just depends on who you bring on your team,” Beth Wilson, who is part of the team of creators, said. “You have to get a good team together to escape.” The challenge was presented in November to nearly 600 students and community members on Union University’s campus. Organizers said only 15 percent could figure it out. “I will guess that less than half of any teams will get out of any given room,” Lee Wilson said. The key sits in the room’s details. Thousands of items have been hand-picked and pulled together for one week of solving mysteries. “It’s a log of small victories that makes this so much fun,” Dauenhauer said. “But the big daddy is always getting out of that room.” Jackson Escape Rooms officially opens its doors to curious minds starting this week. The creators hope to pop up again soon with an entirely new set of challenges in the coming months. The cost is $10 per person, or $60 for a team to register.
