JACKSON, Tenn. — The two elementary schools designated as priorities by the state are getting new leaders. Superintendent Verna Ruffin announced Tuesday that Kyle Lutz will take over as principal of Lincoln Elementary and Kimberly Quinn will become principal at Jackson Careers and Technology Elementary School. For the remainder of the school year, Lutz and Quinn will work alongside their schools’ current principals. The district believes this will ensure a smooth transition. Each will be responsible for naming new staff for the 2015-2016 school year. They will participate in a “Talent Discovery Day” March 28. It is designed just for teachers who want to work at the priority schools. Along with informational meetings, the new principals will do pre-screenings. According to the district, Lutz currently serves as the instructional coach at the Academic Academy at Northeast Middle School. He has worked within the district for seven years, previously teaching English at Jackson Central-Merry Academy of Medical Technology. Quinn is currently a first-year assistant principal at Thelma Barker Elementary. According to the district, she previously worked at East Elementary School and taught for 10 years in the Metro Atlanta School District. Earlier this year, Lincoln and JCT were placed on the state’s priority list. The district said naming new principals is among the first steps in implementing an improvement plan.
