JACKSON, Tenn. — AAA is looking to put the brakes on a law that would allow many of Tennessee’s motorcyclists to ride without a helmet. The new bill, which went in front of a Tennessee committee Tuesday morning, would allow anyone 21 or older with health coverage that is not TennCare to legally ride without a helmet. AAA calls the bill dangerous on top of saying it would be impossible to enforce and would certainly lead to more deaths and injuries. “It does not matter what kind of rider you are, if somebody pulls out in front of you and you lay the bike down and you get injured or you die, it’s not just your family that is going to be hurt — it’s the driver’s family,” said Leah Gray, director of the Lifetime Learning Center at Jackson State Community College. Tennessee law currently requires all motorcycle drivers to wear a helmet.
