DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A man was in court Tuesday to face forgery charges after allegedly stealing checks from his mother. Christopher Brian Eley is accused of taking his mother’s checks and forging her signature on two separate occasions. The woman reported the stolen checks to police March 17, and they were written to Kroger in Jackson both times, according to an affidavit. The mother told police Eley was the only person with access to her checks and that he admitted to forging and cashing them. Eley faces two counts of forgery. His bond was set at $75,000.
