Deputies safely arrest man threatening to kill self

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — Deputies were able to take a man into custody Tuesday after he threatened to kill himself before being arrested. Madison County deputies were dispatched to South Highland Avenue to execute an arrest warrant on Mark Strain at his workplace, according to a release from the sheriff’s office. The initial charge against Strain was a count of contributing to the delinquency of a child, according to sheriff’s department spokesman Tom Mapes. Strain became emotional when he saw the officers, started backing away and reached behind him, saying he would not return to jail. Strain told deputies he would either have them kill him or kill himself, according to the release. The deputies were able to calm Strain, recover a Glock .380 pistol from him and take him into custody without incident, the release states. Strain was arrested on a misdemeanor warrant deputies already had and was held on two new charges of aggravated assault.
