Madison Co. officers investigate ‘suspicious’ railroad crossing damages

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — Authorities are investigating what they are calling a suspicious situation Thursday resulting in five damaged and malfunctioning railroad crossings. Two of the damaged crossings are in Jackson and the other three within the county. The train master, Mark Jobe, reported the crossings were malfunctioning due to the damages, resulting in the lights flashing and the crossing gates being left in the down position, according to the sheriff’s office. The damaged crossings in the city are located on Bemis Lane, Highway 45 Bypass South near State Street and Highway 45 Bypass North off Hollywood Drive. The damaged locations in the county are on Harts Bridge Road and Perry Switch Road. The investigation is being conducted by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department and the Jackson Police Department, and the information has been forwarded to the Department of Homeland Security.
