BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — An elderly mother jumped into a fight Thursday morning while her son was brutally attacked by alleged robbers. Helen Faught, 92, said she found herself jumping into the fight on the living room floor while two robbers nearly beat her son, Roy Faught, to death. “They got him down there on the floor, and yelling ‘Give me your money! Give me your money!'” Faught said. She said she heard a commotion from inside the house where she and her son live. She got out of bed and saw the men attacking her son. She said that was when she threw a punch of her own toward one of her son’s attackers. “I was just beating on him is all I can remember,” Faught said. “I just went crazy.” She said the two men escaped and that she was left with a few bruises. However, family members said Roy was so severely injured he was taken by medical helicopter to Regional One in Memphis. Her eldest son, Aubrey Faught, said courage is a part of his mother’s identity.

“She’s been that way about all of us all of her life,” Aubrey Faught said. “I mean, she raised seven of her own and four step children. She’s tough as nails.” Helen said all mothers should keep that toughness no matter what their age. “Fight them — like I tried to,” she said. According to family members, Roy Faught is still in the hospital but in stable condition. Police still are searching for the suspects, but Helen said she has no identification other than one man possibly wearing a mask.
