Car hauler fire snarls traffic on I-40 in west Madison County

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — Traffic is slowly beginning to return to normal following a Friday night truck fire on Interstate 40. Madison County firefighters were called around 8 p.m. to the scene of a car hauler on fire on the westbound side of Interstate 40 near mile marker 69 in west Madison County. According to Madison County Fire Chief Eric Turner, the driver of the truck was able to get out safely and there were no injuries. Nearly 25 firefighters worked to put out the fire on the big rig. The chief said the truck is a total loss along with five cars being hauled. Two cars received minor damage and two others were not damaged. The Tennessee Highway Patrol assisted with traffic, which was backed up for several miles. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
