Jackson Generals honor memory of former teammate

JACKSON, Tenn. — Officials with the Jackson Generals team are coming up with new ways to remember one of their own. After five years with the Jackson team, Victor Sanchez died Saturday night from injuries he suffered in a boating accident. Once a prospect for the Seattle Mariners, Sanchez had two skull fractures and had been in a coma since Valentine’s Day. WBBJ spoke Monday to officials out at Pringles Park mourning the life of a promising player cut short. “The most tragic thing to me is he was 20 years old, you know, he still had a lot of life to live, and he was going to be one of those great ball players, and it’s just tragic and sad that it happened the way it did,” said Marty Wallace, head groundskeeper for the Jackson Generals. Sanchez’ official number will be written in front of the home team’s dugout for their first game on April 15. A special pre-game recognition service in Sanchez’ honor will also be held.
