Come explore the building blocks of music–fast/slow, high/low, loud/quiet, and steady beat–through a lively variety of hands-on activities. Together, we‘ll learn new songs, sing old favorites, play rhythm instruments, meet sweet animal puppets, dance, laugh, and snuggle. For infants, class will include songs and rhymes, lap bounces, fingerplays, baby-safe instruments (shakers, bells, drums), and group dances. For the toddlers and preschoolers, we‘ll add some “big kid” instruments like tambourines and rhythm sticks and learn how that need to MOVE–jump, twirl, march, run–works hand in hand with musical development. Five and six-year-olds will be introduced to more advanced songs, use rhythm instruments to tell stories, and enjoy games designed to encourage pitch matching and improvisation. In all age groups, colorful props like balls, books, scarves, and puppets add to the fun! Most importantly, these classes are all about the joy of music-making, never about performing or “doing it right.”
