JACKSON, Tenn. — City and county governments no longer have the power to ban guns for permit holders in parks, playgrounds and sporting fields. The bill allowing guns in public places passed Monday. However, there were eleven changes proposed Tuesday including outlawing specific counties, banning guns on Sundays and religious holidays and allowing referendums to undo local gun bans. “I don’t think they should be allowed to carry handguns in a park because of the simple fact that bullets have no name on it,” Cordetta Beasley said. “You should keep it concealed in the public areas,” Robert Clifford said. “But if you can carry it, you should be able to carry it wherever you go.” The Senate will vote Wednesday on the changes to the bill, which will affect 500,000 handgun carry permit holders in Tennessee.
