DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A man appeared Thursday in Jackson City Court on numerous charges stemming from an alleged kidnapping and robbery. Jamarius Deon Gant is accused of robbing a man at gunpoint March 31 and then holding him against his will inside an apartment at 33 Carver Avenue, according to court documents. The man told police Gant threatened to kill a woman at the apartment and also held him against his will while two other men involved in the robbery went outside and stole more than $1,000 worth of items from his car. Police later found Gant in the bathroom of a neighboring apartment, according to an affidavit. Officers found two guns hidden in the tank of the toilet, one a Hi-Point .40-caliber and the other a .38-caliber Smith and Wesson revolver. The serial number on the .40-caliber had been destroyed, the document states. Gant has previously been convicted of a felony and therefore was not allowed to possess a gun. Gant is charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping, burglary of a motor vehicle, two counts of unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon, employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, and alteration of an item’s distinguishing numbers, according to court papers. He is being held in lieu of a $500,000 bond.
