TRIMBLE, Tenn. — The town of Trimble is without local law enforcement Monday while their police chief and only officer recovers from serious surgery. Don Curry is the police chief and only officer in the town of Trimble. Last week, he went under the knife for open-heart surgery. During his recovery, the mayor of Trimble, James Davis, has organized a network of temporary volunteers to help with the town’s safety. He even went as far as giving out his own number for residents to call before 911. “They realize Don is out, and we have nobody,” Davis said. “So it’s in their best interest to help us.” The help consists of off-duty Dyer County sheriff’s deputies, a volunteer constable and Jeffrey Crowder, a former officer turned watchman for the local distillery. “I’m pretty much out here day time, night time, all times of the day,” Crowder said. “You never know what I might see.” The Dyer County Sheriff’s Department said if a resident in Trimble calls 911 they will be directly connected to the Dyer County Dispatch Center, where operators could send deputies to the area. The mayor said this will be the law enforcement setup until the chief recovers, which could take months.
