GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — A top secret operation in Gibson County netted 21 arrests, 17 of them sex offenders. Earlier this week, Sheriff Paul Thomas conducted his first sex offender registry check-up since taking over the department. Many of those who live near the newly arrested sex offenders were shocked to learn of what happened. Darian Moore frequently walks her one-year-old son in the neighborhood of one of the arrested offenders. “It kind of makes me want to stop walking around,” Moore said. Charges against those arrested varied from drugs to firearm possession. Moore said after finding out about the arrests, this will only make her more vigilant. “I keep protection on me though,” Moore said. “So, I’ll be ready.” Thomas said more checks such as these will continue in the future. The Gibson County Sheriff‘s Office was assisted by the U.S. Marshals Service, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Milan Police Department, Medina Police Department, Humboldt Police Department, Trenton Police Department and Tennessee Board of Probation and Parole.
