EAST JACKSON — Engaging communities and empowering victims — that was the message in east Jackson Tuesday. In honor of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, a tree was planted in east Jackson in honor of victims and advocates. The annual tree planting was attended by the Board of Parole, Department of Correction and the Tennessee Rehabilitative Initiative. Those who attended the ceremony say the tree planting symbolized much more than just a tree. “A tree symbolizes strength. A tree symbolizes resiliency,” Tina Fox said. “A tree symbolizes overall shade and protection, so when victims come to this park they can gain that sense of strength.” This is the seventh year for the annual tree planting ceremony.
