GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — A grandmother’s home was set on fire, Saturday night, according to firefighters. They’re asking for the public for any information to help catch the person responsible. The Fire Chief of Gibson County said it happened after 9 p.m. at a duplex off Bradford Highway. He didn’t share specifics over the evidence found, but said the signs pointed to arson. Eleven-year-old Devin Gibbs said he and his step dad first saw flames next door while playing outside. “The dogs were barking. We looked, and there’s a big huge fire just out the window,” Gibbs said. Firefighters said the fire started in the living room and moved to the kitchen. One side of the duplex was vacant and the chief said the grandmother who lived on the side where the fire started was out of town at the time. Neighbors said usually the duplex is vacant, and they didn’t expect arson to be the cause of the fire. “I’m surprised that it was arson, that they think it’s arson, but it’s scary to think about that being in the neighborhood,” neighbor Sam Rhodes said. Gibbs said he hopes the arsonist is caught soon. “Cause you don’t know if any other fires are going to happen at any other house,’ Gibbs said. Officials urge anyone with information about the incident to call the Tennessee Arson Hotline at 1-800-762-3017. A $1,500 reward is up for any information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
