WHITEVILLE, Tenn. — A small-town burglary has local authorities shaking their heads after the suspect broke into a gas station and forgot to grab the cash. “You know, after you do this job for a while you get to see everything and things people do, and it just makes you go ‘huh,'” Police Chief Steven Stanley said. Police say the man who broke into this gas station only took cases of Bud Light and packs of Newport cigarettes. What he didn’t grab was the cash. Stanley says it was sitting right there in front of him. Stanley says his officers arrived less than two minutes after the suspect ran, but a trail of cold beer gave them an idea who it was. “It’s kinda like Hansel and Gretel,” Stanley said. “The suspect left a trail of beers that led us in a general direction of someone we have as a person of interest.” The suspect is now going unnamed. Police say even though this crime may cause a few laughs, it still is a felony. “No matter how silly the crime or what kind of takes place with it, no one should have to be the victim of someone else’s stupidity,” Stanley said. If you have information on the burglary, call the Whiteville Police Department.
