DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A Jackson man appeared Friday in city court on accusations of assaulting his girlfriend during a dispute. Jonathan Jermaine Carter is accused of punching and strangling the woman before throwing her to the floor during the early morning hours of April 5, according to an affidavit. The woman told police Carter also pointed a handgun at her face and told her she was “going to die tonight,” the document states. She told police she jumped from a window to escape. Carter also was arraigned in a separate March 2 incident in which he is accused of stealing the girlfriend’s wallet containing about $500 in cash, according to an affidavit. Carter is charged with aggravated domestic assault in the April 5 incident and theft over $500 in the March 2 incident. He is being held in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
