Public welcome at funeral of fallen Madison Co. firefighter

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — Funeral services for the Madison County firefighter who died in the line of duty Sunday will be held Thursday, and the public is welcome to attend. The services for Chris Blankenship, a 10-year veteran of the Madison County Fire Department, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Carl Perkins Civic Center, located at 400 South Highland Avenue, according to a release from the Madison County Fire Department. Those who cannot attend are urged to show their respect by lining the 6.7-mile procession route, which will run north from the civic center to Highland Memorial Gardens. The interment will be at Highland Memorial Gardens on North Highland Avenue. The funeral procession will leave the civic center at about 2 p.m. and travel north on Highland, the release states. The department is expecting representation from emergency service departments from across the United States, according to the release.
