GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — Police have identified a man they say attempted to rob a Trenton business before fleeing and robbing a woman in a nearby parking lot. Lametius Atkins was arrested after the Thursday robbery in which police say he went into Family Check Advance and acted like he was holding a gun to an employee’s head, although they say he didn’t have a gun. The employee said she had no money, and then Atkins fled from the store. Police say he then punched a woman in the face and stole her purse when he saw her getting out of her car at the other end of the shopping center. An officer recognized Atkins’ car and took him into custody, according to police. When they searched his car, police say they found the woman’s purse along with another purse a woman had reported as having been stolen while she was shopping in Jackson. Atkins is being held without bond.
