Police investigate robbery outside east Jackson church

EAST JACKSON, Tenn. — Police search for a man on a bicycle accused of robbing another man at gunpoint outside an east Jackson church. Officers said the robbery happened Monday night at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church on Glass Street. “We’re just glad that no one was here and we thank God that no one got hurt,” Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church Senior Pastor Mark Mackey said. Mackey shared video from the church‘s surveillance camera. “A car pulled up,” he said. “A gentleman ran down beside the car.” Surveillance video shows a car pull around, a truck drives up, then a person takes off running across the parking lot. Police said the suspect is a black man in his 20s. Investigators said he was dressed in all black, wearing a ski mask and had on black tennis shoes with red soles. Officers said he was last seen leaving the area on a lime-green bicycle. Police said the man got away with cash and a cell phone. “That church has been there for so long, you wouldn’t think anyone would do something like that on church ground,” Felicia Richard, who works nearby, said. Richard works at a barber shop across the street and said she is not scared but plans to take more precautions. “Pay a little more attention to my surroundings because normally I just, you know, go to my car or I’ll make my customer wait on me when it’s time to go,” she said. Mackey said they will pray for the people involved. “Pray about it and hope that this incident touches the hearts and minds of the people in the area,” he said. Police said no one was hurt. Officers said the victim was in the parking lot with two other people at the time of the robbery. Police said the suspect did not target those people.
