OBION, Tenn. — Neighbors said the couple who lived in a home on Troy Avenue were quiet. Both were physically disabled and usually stayed inside, but it was a shock to find them dead Friday afternoon. When they had not been seen in weeks, some neighbors thought their friends Ricky and Margaret Thomason were on vacation. “I just can’t imagine what these people are feeling, knocking on the door, not getting an answer, and finding out they were in there the whole time,” neighbor Michael Roberts said. Obion Police said Friday afternoon when a woman went to check on them, she became worried and called Obion City Hall. “A lady had come out to do a welfare check on the people that lived here, and she couldn’t get them to the door, so she called me,” Obion Assistant Chief Richard Pollock said. Police said they could not get an answer at the front door, and then walked around back. When they still could not get anyone to come to the door, they had to break in, and found the couple dead in the bedroom. “Everybody’s got their own interpretation and I don’t know exactly what happened, but when the autopsy comes back, they’ll know,” neighbor Grady Allen explained. It is an uneasy feeling for neighbors like Grady Allen, and a tragic situation for police. “It’s not something we’re accustomed to by any means. It’s a tragic event regardless of where it hits,” Asst. Chief Pollock said. As someone who knew his neighbors personally, Allen said the couple’s deaths are difficult to understand. “He will be missed and so will his wife,” Allen explained. Obion Police are waiting on an autopsy to officially determine the cause of death.
