BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — The Haywood County budget committee decided Monday night to pitch in on the cost of championship rings for the Tomcats. Just last month, the state champions were given the keys to the city of Brownsville. As of Monday, the Haywood County budget committee approved funding to help buy championship rings for the basketball team. At the budget meeting, members agreed to foot part of the $5,000 bill. Members said the school already has raised $2,000. The city and county will pay the rest — $1,500 each. “No high school students has ever had one of these, so it’s going to be something they very much will treasure,” said Larry Livingston, county budget director. “We’re proud of them, too.” He said they are not sure when the rings will arrive, but they are planning for the soonest possible date.
