STARKVILLE, MISS. – Only one job could bring former Peabody football coach Ricky Woods back to his home state of Mississippi. Starkville High School introduced Woods as their new head football coach on Tuesday morning. “It was very difficult and emotional, especially with my players,” said Woods about leaving Peabody. “This is the only job I would come home for because it’s Starkville.” Woods added, “You just can’t pick jobs when they open. This is a good time for me in my life. I love the proximity of being closer to home. If it would have been further away, I would have still have to Starkville. Location didn’t have a lot to do with it. It’s just the program.” Woods informed Trenton last Thursday that he was resigning. Under the helm of the two-year head coach, the Golden Tide won their first state championship last season. Defensive coordinator Shane Jacobs will replace Woods as Peabody’s head coach.
