Man accused of ID theft, stealing guns from Jackson home

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A man faces charges including identity theft after police say he stole guns from a man’s house and used a credit card in his name. A Jackson man returned home after working overseas from May 2014 to May 2015 and found guns were missing from his home and a letter from a bank stating he owed $9,082 in credit card debt, according to an affidavit. The man had left his daughter in charge of the home, and he found she had allowed Robert Earl Gilchrist III to stay there. When officers spoke with Gilchrist, they say he admitted to taking the guns and to applying for a credit card in the man’s name and charging more than $9,000 on it. The missing guns are valued at more than $1,050, the document states. Gilchrist is charged with theft over $10,000 and identify theft. He is being held in lieu of a $15,000 bond.
