JACKSON, Tenn. — For the first time, the attorney of a man accused of running over his wife with his truck on Christmas Day speaks up for his client. Chad Henry is accused of running over his wife with his truck in Decatur County. His defense attorney, Michael Weinman, told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News what led to his client’s arrest in West Virginia. “He vehemently denies that he intentionally, in any way, harmed his wife,” Weinman said. Weinman said Henry was having an argument with his wife and she kept attempting to escape the moving vehicle, which she finally did. “He could tell that she was very badly injured when she jumped out of the vehicle,” Weinman said. He said Henry was arrested for assault and his wife later died at Vanderbilt Hospital from her injuries. Weinman said once Henry paid his $100,000 bond, he spoke with the assistant district attorney informing them of Henry working out of state. At the time, he said it seemed like it would be no problem. Weinman said Henry left for West Virginia within a few days or a few weeks after the incident. As a union pipe fitter, his job calls him away on short notice. “I had talked with the district attorney’s office, and they knew he intended to be in court on the day of the arraignment,” Weinman said. He said the arraignment was set for May 22, but Henry was arrested earlier. “May 20th, May 21st when I first learned they took him into custody that he’d been arrested in West Virginia on his job site,” Weinman added. Weinman said Henry is currently in West Virginia awaiting extradition back to West Tennessee. Weinman said he expects Henry will be back in West Tennessee by Friday for his arraignment.
