DOWNTOWN JACKSON — Hundreds show up in downtown Jackson Friday for a cookout to benefit Area Relief Ministries. This was the second year for the cookout, which is free but donations were requested to benefit ARM. More than 500 hot dogs with all the fixings were cooked up to order. Organizers say the event was designed to spotlight the work of the organization. “It’s an organization that brings folks from all faiths and denominations together to support the community, and it’s a great unifying organization and we wanted to help support them,” cookout organizer Steve Maroney said. Last year, the cookout raised more than $1,500 for ARM. This year they hope to raise even more.
