Man arrested after leading Paris police on car chase

PARIS, Tenn. — A man is in custody after fleeing from police Monday and leading officers on a car chase. Robert Jenkins was arrested Monday after fleeing in his car and nearly running over two policemen when officers approached him at a car wash, according to a report from the Paris Police Department. Officers approached Jenkins at a car wash on Tyson Avenue after learning he had warrants for his arrest out of Nashville, according to the report. Jenkins sped away with two passengers in the car, spinning the tires and twice nearly hitting an officer, the report states. Police say Jenkins then stopped on Pine Street to let one passenger out. Police had lost sight of Jenkins until someone flagged them down to tell them the car was behind the health department and a nearby pawn shop, according to the report. Jenkins once again fled when approached by police, leading police to notify all other units along with requesting help from emergency responders and the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the report states. Officers were able to box Jenkins in with their patrol cars on Veterans Drive where he was taken into custody. Jenkins is charged with felony evading arrest, two counts of aggravated assault and a count of driving on revoked, according to the report. He is being held in the Henry County Jail in lieu of a $30,000 bond.
