Man charged with panhandling, trespassing at Jackson business

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A man went before a judge Wednesday in city court on accusations of panhandling and trespassing at a Jackson business. Police say they saw Richard Bates trespassing Tuesday at Family Dollar on North Royal Street. He had previously been told to stay off the property for shoplifting and panhandling, according to an affidavit. When approaching Bates, officers saw him ask a woman for money, the document states. Bates is charged with aggressive panhandling and criminal trespassing. He is being held in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
